How to play at 30
Spend periodic damage only where it can tick; heal or interrupt without assuming Shadowform.
30 · Damage and Spirit recovery
Mind Flay selected; a target that can be slowed and room to cast.
- 1

Put a useful damage effect first
Apply Shadow Word: Pain on a durable enemy, then Mind Blast and a safe Mind Flay channel. On a nearly-dead enemy, another full-duration Pain may waste Mana; use the available direct finish instead.

Channel only while spacing is safe
Mind Flay’s slow helps create time but requires a channel and range. Improved Mind Flay trades part of the slow for range and damage; read which version your allocation grants before relying on the old slow.

Tank holds threat; damage and backup-healing roles agreed.

Your route from 10 to 60
Pick the route for your activity, then the level you need. Start at 30 for the last verified Beta stage. Later levels remain a separate plan.
Solo damage with recovery pauses
Current 10–30: one durable enemy, useful Shadow dots and Mind Flay with room to heal between pulls. Future 31–60: Shadowform, then wand and Mana support.
When to use this route and what you give up
- Use it when
- Use this for ordinary solo questing when periodic spells can tick and you can secure Spirit Tap triggers. At 30 the route has Silence, not Shadowform. After 40 leave the form before healing. The sequence is editorial.
- Trade-off
- No Blackout or improved fear cooldown is assumed. Improved Mind Flay is deliberately delayed until 43 because it trades the base 50% slow for 20%. The final 35 Shadow / 16 Discipline split favors recovery over Holy damage or Early Demise.
- Change direction when
- Choose Holy or Discipline when group healing is the main duty. For a kite-heavy solo route, keep base Mind Flay and reassign its two improvement points rather than accepting the weaker slow.

Stat priorities at 30
Upgrade priorities for level-30 play, not simulated stat weights. First keep enough health and resources for your role; compare upgrades of similar level. Hit and critical chance depend on the target and your allocated talents; no universal cap is assumed.
- Spell power
- Intellect
- Spirit
- Stamina
For solo kills, Spirit Tap can support recovery when it triggers. In groups, killing blows are less dependable; keep Intellect and check Shadow Focus before paying for hit.
