How to play at 30

Move between melee and range deliberately; use traps without betting on reactive Counterattack.

30 · Melee/ranged transitions

Correct tracking active; decide whether this pull is melee or ranged.

  1. 1

Track and pick a starting range

Improved Tracking only helps the creature type currently tracked. Start from range with Auto Shot and Aimed Shot when safe, or use a planned melee setup with the combat Aspect; do not drift into the dead zone while casting.

    Abilities, conditions & paragraph sources

The sequence is our recommendation. Linked client records support the mechanics and gates; they do not prove a measured optimal rotation.

    Talents Forever · hunter client exporttalents tree/name/rank and spell_desc class|spell|rank; local content/talents.json and content/spells.json, build 1.60.1.70291
  2. 2

    Use actual melee reactions

In melee use Raptor Strike and Mongoose Bite when its dodge or selected Expose Prey condition is met. Counterattack only activates after your parry; it is not a repeatable opener.

  3. 3

Create an exit before health is critical

Wing Clip or a trap creates room to return to ranged attacks. Strider Kick, if selected, gives a short movement boost; reserve it for a useful escape or reposition rather than spending it before needing distance.

30 · Control and flexible damage

Tank has threat; melee position and the trap target are clear.

  1. 1

    Confirm the damage lane

Use melee attacks from a safe non-frontal position if the encounter allows them; otherwise stay outside the ranged dead zone and use Aimed Shot or Auto Shot. A tree name does not require standing in lethal melee effects.

The sequence is our recommendation. Linked client records support the mechanics and gates; they do not prove a measured optimal rotation.

  2. 2

Place the trap at your feet

Freezing Trap can be used in combat but remains placed at your location. Lead the agreed valid add into it, keep damage effects off it, and avoid trapping beside the healer’s position.

  3. 3

    Know the limits of defense

Deterrence improves dodge and parry rather than granting universal immunity. Use it for physical pressure while repositioning; unstunnable spellcasts still need the party’s interrupter.

30 · Traps and safe cleave

A bounded pack; Frost Trap and fire traps have separate groups.

  1. 1

    Choose slow or hard control

Frost Trap can slow a pack; Freezing Trap removes one valid enemy but breaks on damage. Choose the actual pressure problem rather than assuming the two frost traps are independently available.

  2. 2

    Area shots need clear marks

Multi-Shot shares Aimed Shot’s cooldown and must avoid controlled enemies. At 30 there is no Explosive Trap or Volley; Immolation Trap is a single-target fire tool.

  3. 3

Move back to the planned lane

After Strider Kick or Wing Clip creates distance, return to a valid ranged firing lane or safe melee position. Avoid accidental extra pulls during the movement boost and use Feign Death only with a pet/control plan.

Choose for the job in front of you

LEVEL BY LEVEL · ORDINARY POINT BUDGET

Your route from 10 to 60

Pick the route for your activity, then the level you need. Start at 30 for the last verified Beta stage. Later levels remain a separate plan.

Solo melee · Traps, pet and an exit

Fight in melee with a permanent pet, the correct creature tracking active, and traps or range available when contact becomes unsafe.

When to use this route and what you give up
Use it when
10–30 follows the last-announced Beta cap; 31–60 is a future projection. Choose for a deliberate melee-and-trap questing style. Counterattack requires a parry; Strider Kick arrives at 30 and Lacerating Strikes is projected at 40.
Trade-off
This spends points on parry and dodge control that is less reliable when a dungeon tank takes all hits. The client’s Savage Strikes adds melee ability critical chance; the older official article describes melee damage instead.
Change direction when
For party damage from a safe flank, replace Deflection and Counterattack investment with health or trap support, and rely on Expose Prey for Mongoose Bite opportunities.

This level: Strider Kick 1/1
